Co-Curricular Activities


The intent of the CCA programme is to provide a comprehensive range of extracurricular activities that complement and enhance our students’ academic achievements. CCA subjects are designed to build character, leadership, and teamwork skills, enabling students to develop well-rounded personalities and become responsible, contributing members of society.

We achieve this by providing a diverse and inclusive range of subjects, including sports, arts, and community services. The programme is well-planned, implemented, and monitored to ensure that students have experiences that align with their interests and abilities. All activities are delivered by qualified and experienced teachers who foster learning, teamwork, and scholarship among students. Our CCA programme is flexible, enabling students to switch between activities, while discovering new passions.

Duke of Edinburgh +

Duke of Edinburgh

At King Henry VIII College, students have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award program from the age of 14. The program is divided into three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each level has its own set of requirements and challenges, with students needing to complete a range of activities across four different categories: volunteering, physical, skills, and expedition.

Participating in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award program can be a life-changing experience for students. It allows them to step out of their comfort zone, develop new skills, and make a positive impact in their community. The program also helps students build their confidence, self-esteem, and resilience, which are all essential qualities for success in life.

Biomedical Society +

Biomedical Society

The KH8 Biomedical Society offers students a fantastic opportunity to explore a wide range of topics, including medicine, pharmacology, biotechnology, and other medical-related subjects. This co-curricular activity is specifically designed to provide students with a taste of the medical field and give them a head start on their applications.

Our primary goal is to equip students with the knowledge required for medicine applications, such as the UCAT or BMAT tests, and provide them with interview practice to enhance their chances of success. Using our state of the art laboratories, practical workshops, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities, students also develop a wide range of practical skills that will support their applications.

By joining the KH8 Biomedical Society, students will gain valuable insights into the medical field and have the opportunity to explore their interests in depth. This society will not only foster their passion for the medical sciences but also equip them with the necessary skills and experiences to excel in their future endeavors.

Model United Nations +

Model United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation activity in which students role-play as delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. MUN is an excellent platform to develop essential skills such as research, public speaking, critical thinking, diplomacy, negotiation, and leadership, which are crucial for personal growth and success in the future.

In an MUN CCA, students will be introduced to the world of international diplomacy and will learn about global issues such as climate change, human rights, peacekeeping, and international law. They will represent different countries and work with other delegates to draft resolutions and negotiate compromises. Through this process, students will develop a deep understanding of different perspectives and cultures, and enhance their communication and collaboration skills.

Participating in MUN also provides opportunities for students to attend conferences, meet other students from different schools, and engage in debates and discussions with like-minded peers. They will have the chance to travel to different countries to attend international conferences, which will broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world.

Swimming Squad Training +

Swimming Squad Training

Swimming Squad Training is a co-curricular activity (CCA) at school that offers intensive training for students who are interested in swimming competitively. It is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills, improve their endurance, and prepare for competitive swimming events.

The training typically involves a combination of drills, laps, and endurance exercises that are designed to help students improve their technique, strength, and speed in the water.

In addition to improving their swimming skills, students in the Swimming Squad Training CCA will also learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, and goal setting. They will have the opportunity to compete in swimming meets and represent their school in inter-school competitions.

A CCA that provides a fun and challenging way for students to develop their swimming abilities, improve their physical fitness, and build valuable life skills.

Touch / Tag Rugby +

Touch / Tag Rugby

Touch/Tag Rugby is a popular sport for girls and boys at KH8. This non-contact sport is a great way for our young people to stay fit and active while learning important teamwork and communication skills. The rules are simple: players score points by touching the ball down on the opponent's' end of the field, without getting ‘tagged’ in the process. The game is fast-paced, and players need to be quick on their feet and able to pass and catch the ball accurately.

Players of all skill levels would be welcome to join, and coaches would be available to help teach the rules and provide guidance on technique. The club also provides opportunities for players to compete against other schools in friendly matches or tournaments, helping to develop their skills and confidence on the field.

Basketball +

Basketball

Making use of our full size indoor basketball court, this CCA is one of the most popular activities provided for our students. We encourage our students to participate in basketball, as it is not only a great way to stay active and healthy, but it also promotes teamwork, leadership, and discipline. Students who participate in the program can improve their cardiovascular health, muscular strength, and agility

To be successful in basketball, players must communicate effectively, pass the ball, and trust their teammates. These are valuable teamwork skills that can be applied to many aspects of life.

The basketball CCA program at King Henry VIII College is open to students of all skill levels. The program is designed to cater to the needs of both beginners and experienced players, with coaches providing individualised training and support to each student. The program includes regular training sessions, friendly games against other schools, and competitive tournaments

Football +

Football

The football activity at KH8 is again, one of the most popular clubs on offer. The club aims to improve physical fitness, teamwork, and coordination while having fun. In this club, students can learn new football skills, techniques, and strategies through regular practices and friendly games. They will also learn the importance of sportsmanship, respect, and discipline on and off the field.

The club is open to students of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced players. Coaches and trainers provide guidance and support to help students improve their skills and confidence.

Football matches against other schools or teams give students the opportunity to apply their skills in a competitive setting.

By joining the football CCA, students can develop a lifelong passion for sports, build friendships, and gain valuable life skills that will help them succeed in other areas of their lives.

Trinity Drama(Monologue/Duologue) +

Trinity Drama(Monologue/Duologue)

Trinity Drama(Monologue/Duologue) is a co-curricular activity (CCA) at school that focuses on the art of acting and performance. The club provides students with the opportunity to learn and develop their acting skills through monologue and duologue performances. Monologues are solo performances where one actor delivers a speech or a dialogue, while duologues are performances where two actors interact with each other on stage.

In Trinity Drama, students will learn how to analyse scripts, develop characterisations, and improve their delivery through voice and body language. They will also have opportunities to perform in front of an audience, which can help build their confidence and stage presence. Overall, the Drama (Monologue/Duologue) Trinity Drama CCA is an excellent option for students who are interested in acting and performance, and want to develop their skills in this area. Grades 6 and above also count towards UCAS points for University applications in the UK.

KH8 Eco Committee +

KH8 Eco Committee

The KH8 Eco Committee is a student-led club that promotes environmental awareness and sustainability within the school community. Members of the club work together to identify and implement eco-friendly practices, such as recycling programs, reducing energy consumption, and promoting conservation efforts.

They may also organize events and campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage others to make environmentally-conscious choices. These events will help to directly fund the sustainable activities. Students will learn valuable budgeting, planning and coordination skills. The club may also collaborate with other groups and organizations in the community to expand their impact and promote sustainability beyond the school.

Overall, the Eco Committee provides a platform for students to make a positive impact on the environment and develop leadership skills in the process.

Astronomy +

Meditation, Yoga & Pilates Class +

Meditation, Yoga & Pilates Class

Meditation is an excellent option for a co-curricular activity (CCA) at school as it provides numerous mental and physical health benefits for students. Meditation involves focusing the mind on a specific object or thought in order to achieve a state of mental clarity and relaxation.

Studies have shown that regular meditation practice can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as improve focus, concentration, and overall mental well-being. Additionally, meditation has also been shown to have physical health benefits, such as reducing blood pressure and improving immune function.

By participating in a meditation CCA, students can develop important self-care skills and techniques that can help them manage stress and anxiety in their daily lives. Meditation can also help students improve their academic performance by enhancing focus, concentration, and memory.

Our CCA programme has a significant positive impact on the lives of our students, fostering leadership, social skills and a sense of purpose. Students develop resilience, independence and self-discipline through regular participation in CCA activities. In addition, involvement in CCA builds strong relationships among peers as they work together to achieve common goals. With our well-rounded CCA programme, we pride ourselves in producing graduates who are socially, emotionally and academically competent and ready for future leadership roles.

The activities programme takes place throughout the week; students choose the activities that most interest them, and that they can fit into their busy schedules.

KH8 offers the students the opportunity to take part in the Model United Nations (MUN) and attend conferences in Malaysia. The school regularly puts on theatrical productions as well as musical theatre productions, and students are often involved in other cultural, artistic and musical events and concerts.

A major focus for the school in sports, and KH8 boasts a wide variety of sports clubs and teams, which regularly compete against other international schools in the region.

Some activities will be extensions of the academic and games programmes, and make use of facilities or staffing expertise that may not be available in the usual times. Many will be in the sphere of Art, Graphics and Performance, and others are stand-alone activities, offered by talented staff - an opportunity for students to take up pastimes outside their customary schedule.
